2022 Trend Forecast: Sage Green in Home Decor

If you’ve been following the rise of Sage Green in home decor over the last year, it may come as no surprise to you that Sherwin-Williams named Evergreen Fog SW 9130 the 2022 Color of the Year. Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams, describes the shade as “a sophisticated wash of color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade”.

Evergreen Fog is a calming green-grey hue – the perfect choice to add a fresh look to any space. The organic tone pairs beautifully with natural-looking textiles and champagne gold metal accents. If you’re like us and think you might need to repaint your entire house after seeing this gorgeous modern neutral, be sure to check out the suggested color pairings Wadden provided. She recommends selecting organic neutrals, including Shoji White SW 7042, Accessible Beige SW 7036 and Woven Wicker SW 9104; as well as Urbane Bronze SW 7048, Über Umber SW 9107 and Bakelite Gold SW 6368 for a more luxurious element.

Sherwin-Williams isn’t the only brand to name a variation of green as their color of the year: Glidden, Behr and PPG have all selected various shades of green as their 2022 Color of the Year choices as well. The spotlight is definitely on sage green right now, and we’ve already started seeing more and more instances of its inclusion in home trends among our clients.

Our friends at Generations Homes built this stunning version of our Modern Farmhouse Plan 14682RK for their client in Indiana. They added some fantastic touches of green throughout the home, including a beautiful green kitchen using Benjamin Moore Caldwell Green on the cabinets. This color creates a calming yet sophisticated look, perfect for a space that largely acts as the heart of the home. They also carried the look through to the powder room, using Benjamin Moore Carolina Gull on the walls and vanity. Pairing these green hues with warm brass and inky black accents makes the space feel modern and balanced.

We’ve also seen green used as an exterior accent, whether it be used across the entire facade, shutters, or just a pop of color to add dimension. Our friends at Legacy Lake Homes accented the front of their build of Plan 69743AM with Sherwin Williams Retreat SW 6207. We love how they carried the color across both the front door and the large front window. It pairs beautifully with Sherwin Williams Snowbound SW 7004, which was used throughout the rest of the exterior of the home.
