Every house plan on the Architectural Designs website has a story — and David, Ryan, and Christian help you get to it faster.
As AD's Content team, they shape how plans are presented, organized, and discovered online. From the way a plan is described to how customers browse and compare options, their work helps make a catalog of more than 25,000 designs easier to explore.
What Content Looks Like at AD
David: Helping Customers Narrow the Search
As Director of Content, David has spent years thinking about how customers move from inspiration to choosing a house plan. He still enjoys seeing new designs come through the site and finding details that shift the way he looks at a plan.
"It's that needle in a haystack, right?" he says. "You can't buy five and try them on. It's not really like any other product or service that you would get online."
That perspective shapes everything from how plans are tagged and described to how the team advocates for richer media that gives customers a fuller sense of a design. "We're helping our customers narrow down from 25,000-plus plans to the plan," he says. "That's huge."
Ryan: Bringing Structure to a Large Catalog
As Senior Content Management Specialist, Ryan manages plan content, images, videos, collections, and data — the pieces that help keep a large and growing catalog organized and easy to explore.
He also pays close attention to what customers are responding to. "Open-concept layouts are still very popular, along with main-level master suites and split-bedroom designs," he says. "
Modern Farmhouse,
Transitional, and
Scandinavian-inspired plans continue to stand out too." That awareness also helps shape how new content is prioritized.
Ryan says one of his favorite parts of the job is being surrounded by a team that makes it enjoyable to come to work every day.
Christian: Finding the Story in Every Plan
As Content Associate, Christian helps manage the marketing information AD receives from designers and creates graphics for the website and email campaigns.
"You could hit all the right notes with features and styles," he says. "But it's the combination of design, practical floor plan, and a few intangibles — like well-placed features — that pull it all together. Ultimately, I think the best storyteller wins."
His own taste is a bit of a contradiction, and he's the first to point it out. "I'm more of a warm, intimate, and cozy type," he says, "but give me a low-pitched roof, huge windows, and cool geometric shapes, for the win."
Where to Start Your Search
Ryan points to curated collections as a good starting point, especially for customers who aren't sure exactly what they're looking for yet. Rather than beginning with the full catalog, customers can explore groups based on features, styles, trends, or lifestyle needs.
"Someone might start by browsing collections like our
Top 100 Most Popular,
Lake House Plans, or
Barndominium House Plans," he says. "Even if they are not ready to choose a specific plan, collections can help them get started."
Understanding a Plan Once You've Found It

Virtual Tours
David describes the work as helping customers move from inspiration toward a fuller understanding of a plan, especially when so much of the process happens online. "It's almost like house hunting overseas before you move," he says.
The Content team supports that experience through accurate tags, descriptive copy,
color-coded floor plans, and interactive 360-degree virtual tours. "It's probably our most asked question: can I go see this house?" David says. "You're able to really look where you want to — it's a 360-degree experience, so you can even look up and see how high the ceiling is." It's one of several upgrades
Kitty Connor has pointed to as part of AD's ongoing shift toward richer digital tools.
Comparing Similar Plans
David is specific about what makes a plan page useful. "The most helpful plan pages are the ones that bring everything together — well tagged, rich media, really strong visuals."
He also points to the compare tool as one of the most underused features on the site — a button on every plan detail page that lets customers view up to five plans side by side. "That allows you to compare something in a less overwhelming way than looking at a search page," he says.
Christian sees the same need play out with related plans. "You find the plan that really speaks to you," he says, "but then you realize there's another plan that looks very similar, and this design has an extended great room." Small differences like that can be the deciding factor.

Seeing It Built
For Ryan,
customer build photos are especially valuable. "Our customers bring these plans to life in beautiful and unexpected ways," he says.
For customers who want to go beyond digital tools,
Walk Your Plans offers another way to experience a layout at full scale before building.
Their House Plan Must-Haves
Each member of the Content team has a different must-have for their own home:
David puts natural light at the top of his list, with large windows throughout the common spaces. "Even if it's stormy and dark and gloomy outside, I love being connected with nature," he says. He would also want a
quiet library or study nook where he could focus.
Ryan starts with the kitchen and how it connects to the spaces around it. "The kitchen is where the heart of the home is," he says. "It's the space that brings everyone together." For him, that connection extends into the dining and living areas and out toward the backyard.
Christian comes back to the great room. Big family dinners on Sundays and afternoons spent together in the living room or backyard shaped what he would want in a home of his own. "Those would be focal points of my home," he says. "I'd want to spend my time thinking about how best to build out those spaces."
