They may also be equipped with communication systems, such as a phone or intercom, to allow the occupants to contact emergency services and may even be outfitted with basic necessities such as food, water to sustain occupants for an extended period of time. Overall, a safe room serves as a secure and safe place where occupants can retreat to during an emergency situation.
